TRIBUTE TO RENATO BALESTRA
The tribute to Balestra launches the AltaRoma June 2018 calendar.
A fashion show created to display the work of Renato Balestra, the stylist who has always been fostering the Italian haute-couture fame and prestige.
The iconic, timeless and, at the same time, historical garments are the result of this couturier’s passion and design skills while Balestra’s original touch in fashion comes from his engineering studies.
Garments that never settled for any compromise because they want to show love and respect for women.
Year after year, Balestra’s reputation has grown in Italy and all around the world, gaining appreciation especially in the East and in many other countries where Italian fashion design is often more loved than in its homeland.
The show opens with the very first piece ever drawn and presented on the catwalk with the brand Balestra, in a color that would later become the legendary “Balestra blue”.
After an overview of the most representative pieces that have marked the history of the Maison, the fashion show ends with a formal evening gown dedicated to Rome. The city that holds the couturier’s gratitude, the one that baptized and then followed him with sympathy and affection throughout his entire career as a stylist, despite all the foreign siren calls and temptations.
This show is not a greeting but a brief history, mainly surfaced through the Maison’s Archive, a precious testimony of the creativity and productivity of the stylist: the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of Lazio, on behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, has recently started the process to declare the Archive an item of “particularly important historical interest”.
This is a fundamental moment for the Roman Maison who has always stayed loyal to a style linked to the artistic and craft traditions.
Balestra is also the story of a reliable and bold family business who faced the crisis of haute-couture and never stopped. A family who, by working and travelling, opened new markets and new profits for all Made in Italy products.
Rome is the city where he was born as a stylist and the place where his atelier has always been, sophisticated and international with its living rooms where you can find, among mirrors and statues, portraits of Renato Balestra with actors, princesses and world-famous personalities.
Cinecittà’s Ancient Rome, designed by the most famous Italian Set Designers, will host the tribute and will also launch the next AltaRoma edition.
The set of many movies that made the history of the Italian and international Movie Industry becomes the background of Balestra’s haute-couture, of his blue gowns, of his precious embroideries, of his quotes taken from art, of his desire to always reinvent a new woman, an eternally beautiful one.
A tribute strongly whished by Silvia Fendi as President of AltaRoma. She said this show is a very relevant act directly related to the equally important one of the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of Lazio – as emphasized by the Superintendent dott.ssa Monica Grossi – “to safeguard the history and identity of our country”.
