Designed by creative director Joseph Altuzarra during the early Fall in his bucolic Hamptons
home, the Pre-Fall 2018 collection is a whimsical mix of comfortable yet sophisticated pieces for the modern Altuzarra woman’s wardrobe. With an edited offering of structured pieces, feminine yet strong silhouettes, and colors ranging from neutral hues to rich earth and jewel tones, this collection is a mix of hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine wear; with versatility being the leading purpose. Hints of lace, unique prints, and embellishments combine to create a desirable yet wearable collection.
Outerwear was a prominent focus this season, playing with lining and textures to create military elements from large pockets to reversible wear. From quilted nylon, waxed cotton, and cashmere wool the coats and jackets vary in length and as shown in the collection, have a masculine boxy fit then have been belted at the waist to create a more feminine feel.
On the other side, dresses range from cool and casual to sultry and powerful with short and long flowing pieces to form fitting and detailed silhouettes. Seduction is core to Altuzarra’s principle; for evening, the lace samples were inspired from vintage undergarments and lingerie – pieces that make women feel sexy and confident. Add-ons include ruffles, embroidery, deep v-necklines, and thigh high slits.
From whimsical florals, to graphic leopard, bold stripes, and water colored kilim; prints dominated this collection. Inspiration stemmed from Moroccan carpet patterns, to Joseph’s personal gardens, and independent women. Playing with the logo-mania concept, graphic T – shirts listing some favorite misspellings of the brand name, helped to create a lighthearted statement.
Handbags also played a significant role in the collection with the classic ‘Ghianda’ collection being the standout this season with a bohemian twist, The Pre-Fall Ghianda bags incorporate small silver metal studs to create an “it-girl” cool and modern bag. The stud motif is a direct play on the original Ghianda strap, combining the old with the new while mixing in a color palette ranging from vibrant jewel tones of emerald green, royal purple, and golden yellow to sophisticated neutrals. The studded aspect combined with the logo-mania concept, translated into the belts this season which were shown throughout the look book, cinching the waist of coats, sweaters, and dresses to tie the collection together.
