Retrospective exhibition of works on the 25th anniversary of the death of teacher Su,Cheng-kueng
On September 5th, the opening ceremony of the painting exhibition was held by Principal Wang, Si-fu of National Taipei University of Technology, Yao Lide Committee Member of Examination Institute, Principal Hsu Tai-wen of National Taiwan Ocean University, Lin Man-li,Chairman, National Culture and Arts Foundation, Professor Shih Yun-wen of the Department of Painting and Calligraphy Art of Chang Jung Christian University, Principal Liao Cai-gu, National Tainan First Senior High School and Principal Cheng Wen-yi, National Tainan Girl’s High School delivered speeches, and then the preface reading and works guided by Su,Cheng-kueng’s daughters,Teacher Su Chao-Jung and Professor Su Chao-chin, director Lois Kuo Tainan Art Museum. Widow Mrs. Ye Shih-ua also came to this retrospective to share the wonderful works of her husband before his death.
Su,Cheng-kueng (1932-1995) learned basic painting skills from the folk painter Mr. Tsai Cao-ru’s painting foundation and the famous teacher of National Tainan First Senior High School, Teacher Chie Guo-yong. The university entrance examination was originally admitted to Department of Foreign Languages of National Taiwan University and Tamkang University .
The following year (1953), he was admitted to the Art Department of National Taiwan Normal University, graduated with honors in 1957, studied from famous domestic teachers such as Huang Jun-bi, Pu Hsin-Yu (Pu Ru), Liao Chi-Chun , Jin Qin-bo, Lin Yu-shan, Chen Hui-kun, Ma Bai-shui, etc.. He teached in Keelung Middle School for one year after graduation, then taught at National Tainan First Senior High School from 1960 until his death in 1995. During the period, he founded the “Green Field Studio” in Tainan to cultivate art lovers of student.and pursue higher education, which has a profound influence on art education in the south 0f Taiwan. The current chairman Lin Manli , National Culture and Arts Foundation, who was the student instructed by Su college entrance examinations. Su,Cheng-kueng ‘s works have been selected for the National Teacher Art Exhibition, Thousand Talents Art Exhibition, Tainan Fine Arts Association Exhibition, and listed in the Art Yearbook of the Republic of China.
Twenty-five years after death, the exhibition was curated by two daughters. Teacher Su Chao- Jung and Professor Su Chao- chin inherited their father’s legacy, presenting their rich and wonderful life in retrospective form and glorifying his spirit. There are 73-79 paintings by them choose carefully, covering all-round techniques such as oil painting, watercolor, ink, and high school art textbooks.
There are seven themes including Tainan Hometown, Taipei North Gate, Taipei City Wall-Small South Gate, Past scenes of Bamboo Garden, and draw from nature when he studied in the Art Department of National Taiwan Normal University, scenery of outer islands, still life of flowers , fruits and vegetables, and the scenery of Taiwan islands. The works present a vividly stunning special blue that expresses positive energy and bright blue sky… Seal cutting, sketchbooks, and papyrus works are also displayed on site.
